Visit the Zoo and San Diego Aquarium

Zoos in San Diego include the internationally renowned San Diego Zoo where animals flourish in tropical jungles, African forests, and reproduced natural habitats serving as the home to thousands of unusual animals, some of which have been saved from the very edge of extinction. A big surprise included in the zoos in San Diego is an aquarium disguised as a well-liked theme park visitor attraction.

San Diego Zoo

Enough can not be said about the majesty of the 100 acre San Diego Zoo. Situated in Balboa Park in San Diego, California, the San Diego Zoo is home to over 800 species and 4,000 animals including the giant Panda. The zoo in San Diego is passionate about conserving and rescuing species. At the zoo in San Diego endangered species are bred in in the zoo environment only to be released in their natural habitat. There are eight animal sections for viewing animals in their natural environment at the San Diego Zoo. One of the most well liked animal areas is the Polar Rim where visitors can see the Polar Bear, Reindeer and Arctic Aviary exhibits. Close by is Panda Canyon, which is home to the famous San Diego Zoo’s Giant Pandas. The Lost Forest animal zone is a tropical habitat for many endangered animals and includes hippos, apes, monkeys, and a large variety of birds. Children are exposed to nature and wildlife in an individual way in the Discovery Outpost in the children’s zoo, insect house, reptile house, crocodile and turtle exhibit, and the Sea Lion Show. Step into the enchanting Hummingbird House to watch hummingbirds enjoying life in an exciting indoor tropical jungle setting, complete including waterfalls.

SeaWorld

The most visited San Diego aquarium is situated inside of SeaWorld. Visitors can walk through the world’s most massive underwater tunnels to be surprised by sharks in their habitat as they swim overhead. Come face to face with Shamu and other killer whales as they swim up to the glass wall of their million-gallon pool. The most unusual and pretty aquariums in SeaWorld are the the California Tide Pool and Cirque de la Mer. Visitors are astonished by the strange and colorful ocean life on display in the Cirque de la Mer aquarium. The California Tide Pool gives visitors an outstanding chance to really reach in and touch the puzzling marine creatures that dwell in a tide pool, like star fish, sea urchins and anemones.

Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography

Another preferred San Diego aquarium is the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography where giant aquariums bring the mystery of sea life close enough to touch with over 60 habitats full of Pacific sea life. Some popular exhibits include “”There’s Something About Seahorses”, Kelp Forest, and Coral Displays, Living Tide Pools where visitors can touch marine life, Shark Reef & Hall of Fishes, and much more. The Birch Aquarium is unique in that it concentrates on local San Diego coastal ocean life and also does conservation and research together with the University of California at San Diego.
